My name is Adrian Vargas-Loaiza and I'm a Graphic and Web Designer from the Bay Area, CA. I've recieved my BA in Graphic Design from Columbia College Chicago in 2023 with a focus primarily on web design, but I have experience in commercial design, publication, videography and photography.

I've worked on a few projects that include video and sound production, as well as editing. I have a lot of experience with photography, specializing in film shot on 35mm cameras.

Deforestation in the United States

In this project, I wanted to explore the rates of deforestation across the United States. In this research project, I took data from the US Forestry and Wildlife page to average out the deforestation rates from 2001-2009. This chart depicted two different points of data, the first being annual tree cover loss, and the other is average loss due to dominant drivers. These categories consisted of urbanization, wildfires, shifting agriculture, forestry and commodity-driven deforestation.

The Seashell Co.

In this project, I wanted to explore photography as a method of graphic communication. I took a series of photos of a product, and from there developed those photos into a more cohesive brand/advertisement layout. I chose to go with The Seashell Co, and create a modern and updated brand advertisement for customers.

On Tectonics: Rainbow Truss

The purpose of the project was to understand the role tectonics and structures play in an Architectural setting. Titled “Rainbow Truss”, I created a dome-like structure which introduces a space that allows a singular flow of movement, yet the cage-like structure can suggest something a bit more playful and socially engaging.

Barren Kombucha Co.

In this project, I wanted to explore my own bottled beverage brand, Barren Kombucha Co. The purpose was to create a line of products that advertise these cans with a contemporary approach. I explored Adobe Dimension and 3-D modelling a lot more in-depth with this project, which helped me reimagine what advertisements could look like in commercial settings, as well as what's possible with these tools in combination with one another.

Medical Scholars Pathway Logo

In this project, I once again worked with Kaiser Permanente to produce a more recent logo for their Medical Scholarship Pathway program. I worked with a team of a few doctors and clients who work in the offices within Northern California to produce their vision for the event. This is logo is now being implemented on face masks, t-shirts, jackets and tote bags! This worked well with my current studies in Graphic Design, as I better understood what it truly means to work with clients, and getting hold of what they want out of a product. This was a phenomenal collaborative experience with Kaiser.

Spotify UX Redesign

Spotify has been around since about 2006, making its debut originally as a Swedish streaming service. I’ve personally been using this app regularly since about 2013, and looking back on how much it’s changed as an application has really opened my eyes to how far Spotify has come as a streaming service. I really wanted to conduct a test that would explore the app a little more in-depth. By capturing a few case studies among a group of people regarding the user interactivity and accessibility of the app I feel like there would be a good chance of making a positive change for a more consistent look, across all devices.
